Jeffrey Kadlic is a Founding Partner of Evolution Capital Partners, a nationally recognized and award-winning private equity firm dedicated to driving small business transformational success. His passion is simple; arm and inspire entrepreneurs today with the operational leadership, capital management, and success drivers that competitive markets demand. He is a creator of Evolution’s Five Fundamentals; the systematic organizational change agent that transforms the challenges small businesses face into sustainable and profitable growth.

Prior to forming Evolution Capital Partners, Jeff executed complex investments within large institutional settings for over 10 years. Jeff was a principal within the Brantley Partners organization dedicated to investing mezzanine and private equity securities in lower middle-market companies nationwide. Jeff was a Senior Associate for Prudential Capital Group; managing an investment portfolio exceeding $1 billion. Jeff launched his career in commercial lending at LaSalle National Bank. Collectively, this laid the foundational experiences and market knowledge required to be successful across the competitive investment landscape of today. Jeff earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from Miami University (Ohio) and a Master of Management Studies degree from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University.

Evolution Capital Partners was the recipient of the 2014 Association for Corporate Growth (ACG) Deal Makers Award. Ernst & Young recognized Jeff as a 2013 Entrepreneur of the Year finalist. Evolution Capital Partners was the 2013 recipient of Inc. Magazine 500 Award, featuring it as one of the fastest growing companies in the U.S. In 2009 Jeff was the recipient of Cleveland Crain’s Business 40 Under 40 as one of Ohio’s leading business professionals.

Jeff is a published writer and national speaker on the matters of micro markets, micro buyouts, entrepreneurial business strategy, and organizational transformation. He co-hosted a radio show “The Second Stage,” a program dedicated to best practices impacting the entrepreneurial community. He serves as the philanthropic board president for the Nature Center of Shaker Lakes and a dedicated chairman for the Miami University Cleveland Development Board. Jeff currently lives in Cleveland, Ohio with his wife and four children.

Michael Goldberg. Associate Professor, Design & Innovation, Case Western Reserve University,  Weatherhead School of Management

Michael Goldberg is an experienced venture capitalist and entrepreneur whose teaching is focused on the fields of entrepreneurship and early stage finance. Goldberg is an Associate Professor of Design and Innovation at the Weatherhead School of Management, Case Western Reserve University. Goldberg is also the inaugural Executive Director of the Veale Institute for Entrepreneurship at Case Western Reserve University. With support from the Burton D. Morgan Foundation, Goldberg created a massive open online course (MOOC) called Beyond Silicon Valley: Growing Entrepreneurship in Transitioning Economies, which has attracted over 175,000 students from 190 countries with subtitles in 16 languages (most on Coursera platform). Inc.com named Beyond Silicon Valley one of the top online classes that “will make you smarter and more interesting.” Beyond Silicon Valley was also named by the AACSB as one of its 25 winners of its Entrepreneurship Spotlight Challenge (2017) and Innovations That Inspire (2020). Goldberg spoke about the impact of his MOOC at TEDxHeraklion in Crete (February 2015) and TEDxFulbright in Santa Monica (September 2015). He is also the author of Beyond Silicon Valley: How One Online Course Helped Support Global Entrepreneurs.

Goldberg co-founded the Bridge Investment Fund, a venture capital fund focused on investing in Israeli medical device companies that have synergies with the leading health care industries and institutions in Cleveland.

Goldberg has deep experience teaching entrepreneurship in international markets. He was awarded Fulbright fellowships to teach entrepreneurship at the National Economics University in Hanoi, Vietnam (2012), the Polytechnic in Windhoek, Namibia (2015) and the Asociación Canaria de Startups, Empresas de Base Tecnológica e Inversores Ángeles (Emerge) in the Canary Islands, Spain (2018). Goldberg has also been a visiting professor teaching courses on entrepreneurial management and finance at Bilkent University in Ankara, Turkey and the ALBA Graduate School of Business in Athens, Greece. He has conducted seminars on behalf of the US Department of State on entrepreneurship in Argentina, Austria, Botswana, Cambodia, Chile, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Greece, Indonesia, Kosovo, Laos, Macedonia, Morocco, Myanmar, Namibia, the Netherlands, Philippines, Portugal, Russia, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland, Tanzania, Tunisia, Vietnam, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Goldberg is active in the entrepreneurship community in Cleveland, serving as a mentor to entrepreneurs through Jumpstart and Plug and Play. He has appeared as a frequent guest panelist on MSNBC’s “Your Business” and written on international entrepreneurship for Forbes, CNBC, Entrepreneur.com and The Huffington Post.

Michael Gregory, CFA, Deputy Chief Economist and Head of U.S. Economics for BMO Capital Markets

Michael Gregory is Deputy Chief Economist and Head of U.S. Economics for BMO Capital Markets. He manages the team responsible for forecasting and analyzing the North American economy and financial markets.

Michael began his career in economics with Royal Bank of Canada in Montreal in the mid-1980s, before moving to Toronto to work in RBC’s foreign exchange and money market research group. He eventually moved further along the yield curve and across the border, joining the fixed income strategy group at Lehman Brothers in New York City in the mid-1990s. Returning to Canada at the end of 2001, Michael headed up the Financial Services Analysis team at Bank of Montreal, focusing on regulatory and industry restructuring issues, before shifting to BMO Capital Markets Economics in 2004. He moved to Chicago in late 2013, providing research support for the U.S. and Canadian fixed income business and working with the Global Fixed Income Strategy team, before returning to Toronto in 2016.

Cleveland Metroparks – Blazing a Trail through the Pandemic 

Bill Chorba, CPA, CGMA, CFO, Cleveland Metroparks

Bill Chorba holds active CPA and CGMA designations and currently serves as the Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer of Cleveland Metroparks, where he plans, develops, directs, controls, and manages the Park District’s financial affairs. He is responsible for finance, accounting, treasury, payroll, internal audit and procurement. As Chief Financial Officer, Bill serves as an ex officio of the Board of the Park District and is the Board’s liaison with the Park District Audit Committee. Cleveland Metroparks is a multi-faceted, award winning park district with almost 24,000 acres that include park reservations, golf courses, restaurants, marinas, retail operations, state-accredited police force and a nationally acclaimed zoo.

Prior to joining Cleveland Metroparks, Bill was the Chief Financial Officer of NineSigma, an international innovation and technology services firm, where he was responsible for finance, strategy, accounting, risk management, investor relations, treasury, human resources, IT and administration. He was a key executive team member orchestrating the turnaround and successful exit of this venture capital-backed organization. In addition to being CFO, Bill served on the Board of Directors of NineSigma Japan and was a Managing Director of both NineSigma Europe and NineSigma Korea.

Mr. Chorba’s other senior finance roles throughout his near 30-year career include Chief Financial Officer of an employee benefits, payroll and HR administration company, Vice President at a large, international risk management and insurance firm, and Manager at a national CPA firm.

In addition to his professional service, Bill served as the Chair of the Executive Board of the Ohio Society of CPAs as well as two terms as an Executive Board member. He currently serves as an AICPA Governing Council Member representing Ohio and as the Chairman of the Finance Committee of the Northeast Ohio Foundation for Patriotism. Most recently, Bill was accepted into the Leadership Cleveland Class of 2021.

 Financial Game Plan for the New Normal

Presented by: John K. Lane, CEO/Managing Director, Inglewood Associates LLC

About our Speaker:

John Lane has nearly 40 years of financial, business and technology experience, serving clients based in Atlanta, Chicago, Ohio, Pennsylvania, San Francisco, Shanghai, Sydney, Taipei, and Washington DC.

From October 2012 to November 2013, John served as the interim CEO of American Roll Formed Products (ARF), a custom roll former located in Painesville, OH. Working with the management team, and assisted by Richard (Dick) Hojnacki, John led the transformation at ARF from a very entrepreneurial business to a process driven one, while maintaining the entrepreneurial spirit. ARF experienced significant sales growth and improved efficiencies under John’s watch. Additionally, it took only three months to move from board approval of ARF’s Southwest expansion to producing its first part. John identified an internal candidate who ultimately became ARF’s new president, allowing John to return full time to Inglewood.

John has served as an operating and liquidating receiver, has provided extensive turnaround services and has acted as crisis management and financial advisor for debtors and creditors. The industries that he has worked with include automotive, logistics, retail, metal, media, advertising, printing, plastics, services, real estate, high technology and companies serving the oil and gas industry. John has also served as damage expert for numerous litigation matters, directed fraud audits, negotiated joint ventures and the resolution of breaches of contract, and provided numerous business valuations including several in connection with contentious proceedings.

Prior to Inglewood, John was the Managing Director of The Revere Group-Cleveland, an IT and business consulting firm. John was also a partner at Price Waterhouse, serving for nineteen years, where he provided negotiation strategies for a successful $275 million acquisition and actively participated in three IPO’s, including OfficeMax’ offering which was at that time the largest retail IPO. John also served in Price Waterhouse’s Retail and Real Estate Specialty Practices.

John has a BBA degree from the University of Notre Dame, has earned the Certified Turnaround Professional (CTP) designation, is a CPA (non-practicing) and holds a Series 7 Securities License (inactive). He has served on and moderated panels, authored articles and been quoted in the media on a number of business topics. One authored article was “Receiverships Might Be Good Alternative to Bankruptcy, A Non-Legal Perspective on Risks, Benefits”, which was published in the August 2008 issue of The Journal of Corporate Renewal, the national publication of the Turnaround Management Association.

John is a Board Member and former President for the Ohio Chapter of the Turnaround Management Association. He also served as a Board Member of Knotice, Ltd. (http://www.knotice.com/) until its sale in early 2014.

Keynote Speaker:  Harlan Sands, President, Cleveland State University

Harlan M. Sands was appointed by the Cleveland State University Board of Trustees to serve as the University’s seventh President, effective June 1, 2018.

Sands is a highly regarded and widely respected higher education leader with extensive experience at urban research universities. He has a proven track record of advancing academic excellence, empowering faculty, championing research and aligning strategies and operations to meet the emerging needs of higher education in the 21st century. He brings 30+ years of experience as a higher education thought leader, academic administrator, business process transformer, teacher and student advocate.

Sands came to CSU from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, where he served as Vice Dean of Finance and Administration, Chief Financial Officer and Chief Administrative Officer. Among his responsibilities were overseeing and administering divisions of finance/administration, budget, human resources, information technology, communications/marketing, internal audit/compliance, facilities and research data services.
